Yang Zhihuang earned a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, China. He began studying biodynamic agriculture with Hans Mulder in 2006. In 2008, he began promoting the Babao Organic Demonstration Community in Yilan County, Taiwan, an organic settlement associated with the Ci-Xin Waldorf community, and undertook observational study at the biodynamic farm affiliated with Weleda in Germany. In 2009, he joined an exchange at a biodynamic farm run by the Don Bosco Sustainable Development Foundation in the Philippines. Since 2010, he has led the Babao Organic Education and Promotion Farm. In 2013, he served as project manager for a food, agriculture, carbon-reduction, and low-carbon living initiative of the Yilan County government. He studied at the biodynamic farm of the Hohepa Anthroposophical therapeutic community in New Zealand in 2016. In 2018, he shared biodynamic agriculture at Saiwei Organic Farm in Xining, Qinghai, and taught parent-child farming courses at Fangshan Academy in Beijing.
His training and certifications include the United States International Organic Inspectors Association course for organic processing inspectors in 2005; homeopathy study in March 2006; training for organic agricultural product certification and inspection in Taiwan in 2009; classical homeopathic medicine study in 2010–2011; a three-year, six-session biodynamic agriculture program in Taiwan from 2009 to 2012; MOA natural farming study at Japan’s Ohito Farm in 2012; organic product inspection work with the Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation from 2010 to 2016; external inspection work with Universal International Organic Certification from 2016 to 2017; and inspection work with the Taiwan Organic Agricultural Production Association from 2017 to 2020. He has also studied permaculture design, local beneficial-microorganism cultivation with Thailand’s Khao Kwan Foundation, and Anthroposophic medicine through IPMT programs in Taiwan in 2015, 2016, and 2018. He volunteered for thirty-two years as an ecological conservation interpreter at Yushan National Park and co-authored Organic Farms in Taiwan, published in 2006 by the Taiwan Organic Food and Farming Education Promotion Association.
